Murals
Collaborations on numerous international mural projects involving community were with KOPRA (Germany, specifically Karsten Meier and Susanne Hesch). Themes have been migration, illegal immigrants, borders/border crossing, encounter of cultures, Aids, Global Trade. In the past we have worked with various communities, such as auto workers, neighborhoods with social conflicts, children. We have also expanded the idea of the wall to painting on huge commercial trucks that traveled through Europe, with the topics being Fair Trade and Aids.
Our process is strongly based on communicating with the community that will live with the mural, as well as the group collaborating with us. We have developed various techniques at working with groups, many times non-artists, researching our topic and coming up with a design. The realization is done by us, and we often include people in that phase who have shown interest in the painting process.
